Dr. Alfonso Méndiz Noguero (Barcelona, 1961) today officially took office as Rector of the International University of Catalonia (UIC Barcelona) in the Aula Magna of the University. The solemn act was chaired by the president of the University Board of Trustees, Mr. Miguel Ángel Cazcarra, and had the ceremonial proper to the inauguration: the outgoing rector, Dr. Xavier Gil, has offered the attributes of rector to the new rector, Dr. Alfonso Méndiz: baton, medal, gloves and cap.

The University Board of Trustees announced last May that Dr. Méndiz would take over from Dr. Xavier Gil, rector who, since 2015, chained two consecutive terms at the head of the Institution. In this way, Alfonso Méndiz becomes the fifth rector of UIC Barcelona, founded in 1997, after the management of his predecessors, doctors Jordi Cervós, Josep Argemí, Pere Alavedra and Xavier Gil.

Alfonso Méndiz has a degree and a doctorate in Information Sciences from the University of Navarra and is Professor of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising from the International University of Catalonia. Until September 1, he assumed the dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences and taught Theory and History of advertising at the faculty. This course plans to maintain the teaching and mentoring of students , which will make it compatible with their new institutional responsibilities.
