The Chiguayante Guarantee Court ruled that the former parish priest of Hualqui, Reinaldo Méndez Sánchez, accused of sexual abuse and rape, comply with the precautionary measure of preventive detention in the El Manzano de Concepción prison, because he failed to comply with the total house arrest to which he he was subdued.
According to information from Biobío, Méndez was formalized for repeated crimes of sexual abuse and rape, and began to serve house arrest in a home for spiritual retreats in Tomé, but due to attempts to attack the place, he had to move to Coronel, whose residence must be periodically verified by the Carabineros.
In this context, Carabineros detected that the former parish priest, expelled from the clerical state by the Catholic Church, failed to comply with this precautionary measure, as reported by the prosecutor Francisco Jacir, of the Metropolitan North Central Prosecutor’s Office, for which his preventive detention was ruled .
In this regard, the defense attorney, Román Lagazzi told Radio Bío Bío that he will file an appeal for protection and explained that what happened is that the Carabineros could not find the address.
“The address exists, however the court gave full and absolute credit to the office of Carabineros without any kind of objection. Originally he was in Tomé, but that house was stoned by the victim, and it was necessary to request a change of address. ”
Another of the victims who filed complaints against Méndez, appreciated that this precautionary measure has been applied: “We are seeing that justice is doing its job.
We hope that this preventive detention can be a reality and something permanent while the investigation is completed, and that receive the sentence you have to receive like any person who has committed crimes. ”
